10GbE all-flash with lane-width caveats, not a silent HDMI upgrade

Factory 8GB DDR5 (ECC supported on ECC DIMMs), diskless, 6x M.2 (1x4 / 3x2 / 2x1 PCIe 4.0), 1x10GbE, USB4 without host-to-host, no HDMI

ASUSTOR FS6806X network attached storage system

Who this configuration fits

File sharing and backup

All 6 storage slots use NVMe SSDs. Select compatible M.2 2280 modules and budget for endurance and a separate backup. The manufacturer archive contains copied HDD-capacity examples; those are not accepted as SSD limits.[1]

Good fit

Using SATA hard drives

Its NVMe slots do not accept SATA hard drives, and local SSD headline speeds are not network speeds.[1]

Limited fit

Fast wired transfers

1 x 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10G/2.5G/1G/100M); confirm the rest of the network and drive layout.[1]

Living with it

Storage, network and software trade-offs

01

Read the M.2 wiring and the RAM line

Official table: one PCIe 4.0 x4, three x2, two x1. Memory is 8GB DDR5-4800; ECC works only with ECC modules, and mixing non-ECC disables ECC. Factory 8GB is not labeled ECC. USB4 host-to-host is unsupported. No HDMI.[1]

02

Large files, small files and encryption behave differently

KitGuru tested six mixed 2TB Gen4 SSDs on 10GbE with factory 8GB RAM. ATTO RAID 5 sequential read/write reached about 1,110 MB/s. Its 530.21/481.36 MB/s CDM figures are 4K random results from different arrays. A 50GB mixed folder wrote at 278–290 MB/s across arrays. In RAID 5, encrypting a 16GB folder reduced write speed from 1,031 to 368 MB/s and read speed from 998 to 453 MB/s. Plan around the files and encryption you actually use.[4]

03

What TechRadar adds without numbers

Hands-on confirms HDMI is gone and that x1 slots are the ones that run out of PCIe budget first if you also want USB4. Ambiguous Mb/s asides are not used as measurements.[5]

KitGuru — 16 pages, mixed Gen4 2TB, 10GbE

Six mixed 2TB Gen4 SSDs, factory 8GB and 10GbE. ATTO RAID 5 sequential 1,110 MB/s both ways; 4K CDM random is a separate workload. RAID 5 encrypted write/read 368/453 MB/s versus plain 1,031/998. PCMark overall 153–167 MB/s across arrays. Wall peaks 25.8–29.4 W read and 27.9–38.2 W write; idle 13.1 W. Filesystem unnamed.

KitGuru Flashstor 6 Gen 2 (FS6806X) 10GbE SSD array tests

Tested: Mixed Gen4 2TB SSDs (Netac NV7000-t, Klevv CRAS C925, Crucial T500, Solidigm P41 Plus, HP FX990 PRO, Samsung 990 PRO) in RAID 0/5/6/10. Client 10GbE Gigabyte GG-AQC107 (Gigabyte supplied). Stock 8GB DDR5. Filesystem not stated on the methodology page (official EXT4/Btrfs). Tools: ATTO, CDM 8.0.5, Intel NASPT, PCMark 10 Data Drive, FastCopy from a 2TB Gen4 SSD. ADM 5.0.0.RA82.

Applies to: Exact FS6806X on 10GbE. KitGuru intro ‘two 10GbE ports’, page-3 ‘8GB ECC’, and closing ‘six PCIe Gen4 x4 slots’ contradict the official table (1×10GbE; 8GB DDR5 with ECC supported if ECC DIMMs; 1×4 + 3×2 + 2×1). Official footnotes win.

Limits to keep in mind

  • Gigabyte supplied the 10GbE NIC.
  • Filesystem not named on methodology page.
  • Do not use KitGuru’s two-10GbE / stock-ECC / all-x4 slot wording against official footnotes.
  • Printed CDM IOPS and MB/s do not all agree; do not derive converted values.
  • Encryption chart has a read-series direction typo; FastCopy prose differs from its chart for RAID 10 8K writes.
  • No controlled noise, thermal or failed-drive rebuild results.

TechRadar hands-on: FS6806X lanes, 10GbE and missing HDMI

Tested: Hands-on FS6806X with unspecified Gen4 NVMe modules that were not on the compatibility list but worked during the review window. No RAID benchmark. Performance section is PCIe/USB saturation arithmetic (including 2000Mb/s and 1200Mb/s), not a controlled copy test. Quiet is subjective.

Applies to: Exact enclosure for missing HDMI, 10GbE vs dual 2.5GbE, and stock 8GB non-ECC vs ECC-capable DIMMs (official: Supports ECC; mixing non-ECC disables ECC). USB4 host networking / LAN adapters are reviewer claims; official table says host-to-host is not supported — not settled. Do not convert Mb/s asides into MB/s measurements. 2025 article prices are not current offers.

  • Stock module is standard DDR5; FS6812X gets ECC. Official FS6806X: 8GB DDR5-4800, ECC supported if ECC DIMMs.Source location: Features / cheap memory
  • No RAID benchmark. Saturation figures (≈2000Mb/s x1 slot, ≈1200Mb/s 10GbE) are calculations with likely unit mistakes — not adopted as measurements.Source location: Performance
  • USB4 direct-to-PC / adapter LAN up to ‘30GbE’ is not verified against the official host-to-host-not-supported footnote.Source location: Design + official USB4 notes
  • Quiet ‘borders on silent’ is subjective; no dBA.Source location: Design

Limits to keep in mind

  • No RAID/folder MB/s table.
  • Do not use 2025 $899/$1,040.99 as a live 2026-09-11 offer.
  • Official USB4 host-to-host not supported.

Questions before buying FS6806X

Is the included 8GB ECC?

The hardware table lists 8GB DDR5-4800 and separately says ECC is supported and will disable if non-ECC is mixed. It does not call the pre-installed module ECC. Treat Amazon ECC titles as unconfirmed.[1]

Does it have HDMI?

No. TechRadar notes the drop versus FS6706T.[1][5]

How fast is it on 10GbE?

KitGuru ATTO RAID 5 sequential read/write reached about 1,110 MB/s. Its mixed-folder and encrypted transfers were slower: RAID 5 encrypted write/read 368/453 MB/s. CDM 4K random figures measure a separate workload.[4]

Are all six M.2 slots equal?

No. One x4, three x2, two x1. A x1 slot can still fill 10GbE, but USB4 plus LAN at once needs a wider slot according to TechRadar’s wiring discussion.[1][5]

USB4 to a PC?

Host-to-host is not supported on the published table.[1]
