Plan around 2TB mirrored space
Choose the 4TB package for a mirrored library that fits comfortably below 2TB, allowing room for growth and backup versions. Deletion, malware and a lost enclosure still require a separate backup.[1]

Living with it

One Gigabit Ethernet port and USB 2.0 favor routine sharing and scheduled copies. Large restores and frequent transfers deserve more time; link rate is not measured file speed.[1]
Buffalo lists the LS200 family as not compatible with macOS 26 Time Machine. An existing AFP backup continuing to work is not evidence that a new setup is supported.[2]
The reviewed documents describe file sharing, USB backup and WebAccess. They do not establish Docker/VM hosting, NVMe expansion or hardware-transcoding performance for this unit. Choose a documented app-capable NAS if those are core requirements.[1]
The adopted test covers one historical factory 4TB sample. Current HDD revisions, firmware and network conditions can change results.[4]
ServeTheHome (2016) tested an empty LS220D with two user-installed 4TB WD Reds. ATTO RAID 1 prose cites about 55 MB/s writes and 50–95 MB/s on the same chart sentence; idle 12.413 W and peak 15.424 W on a Yokogawa WT310. That is the older diskless LS220D, not the factory SoHo LS220D0402B 2×2TB WD Blue sample TweakTown used.[7]
