Is the N5 Air Barebone right for you?

Experienced builders choosing their own DDR5 memory

The barebone saves the cost of unwanted RAM and lets the buyer choose up to 96GB, while retaining five SATA bays and three physical M.2 positions.[1]

Good fit

Five-bay storage with fast dual-network links

The exact configuration combines No memory installed (barebone), 1 × 10GbE + 1 × 5GbE and 5 × SATA HDD + 3 × M.2 SSD.[1]

Good fit with planning

You want a NAS ready to initialize out of the box

No RAM is installed; one M.2 position is used by OS storage, and the applicable stable MinisCloud build and feature ceilings were not verified.[1][2]

Hardware, software and ownership tradeoffs

01

MinisCloud features and backup limits

MinisCloud provides ZFS pools, snapshots, containers and client-to-NAS backup. LinuxLinks’ August 2026 N5 Pro review shows RAIDZ1 requiring at least three disks, RAIDZ2 four and RAIDZ3 six; the disabled options were disk-count restrictions. Its Backup app could not copy data already on the NAS to another target. The reviewer also observed a SAN/iSCSI app and a working Ubuntu VM, but no SSH/SFTP or native sharing of attached USB disks. These observations describe that tested release; confirm the build and required features before relying on it for backup.[5][1]

02

Related Air storage, power and noise test

NASCompares’ N5 Air review does not identify installed RAM. With four 4TB Seagate drives it reports about 650 MB/s read and 500–525 MB/s write; RAID level, protocol and full client setup are not specified. A separate SATA-SSD run reached roughly 800 MB/s in each direction, with 26–27W idle and 81–83W CPU-load consumption. Reported SSD-only noise was 35–38 dBA idle and 46–48 dBA at higher fan speed, with distance unspecified. These archived prose results describe that configured sample; embedded chart frames were not independently read. Its 8K playback observation does not establish transcoding capacity.[2]

03

Related 32GB fnOS and add-in network test

Koolshare’s February 2026 N5 Air test used 32GB memory and fnOS. After the built-in RTL8127 was not recognized, the reviewer installed an Intel X710-T2L: the approximately 1.10 GB/s copies and 1,184 MB/s iSCSI result therefore use the added card. The article’s 6,867 MB/s SSD result appears to use a Gen4 x4 path, conflicting with the stock x1/x2/x1 slot specification; it is not adopted as stock-slot performance. Video tests describe decoding/playback rather than a verified simultaneous-transcode count. This is related configuration evidence, not a factory-16GB measurement.[6]

What still needs a real-world test

We have verified the specifications, but have not found an original test that we can reliably apply to this exact model. The advice above follows the documented features; performance, noise and long-term reliability are not independently established here.

Questions before buying

Is N5A-H25506US the same machine as other N5 family models?

No. Air is Ryzen 7 255 non-ECC SODIMM with a plastic chassis. Pro is HX PRO 370 with ECC-capable SODIMMs and U.2. Max is soldered LPDDR5x Strix Halo with dual 10GbE and an internal 250W PSU. Do not copy one SKU’s RAM or price onto another.[1]

Does MinisCloud include RAID, snapshots and backup?

MinisCloud provides ZFS pools, snapshots, containers and client-to-NAS backup. LinuxLinks’ August 2026 N5 Pro review shows RAIDZ1 requiring at least three disks, RAIDZ2 four and RAIDZ3 six; the disabled options were disk-count restrictions. Its Backup app could not copy data already on the NAS to another target. The reviewer also observed a SAN/iSCSI app and a working Ubuntu VM, but no SSH/SFTP or native sharing of attached USB disks. These observations describe that tested release; confirm the build and required features before relying on it for backup.[1][4][5]

Can I install TrueNAS or Unraid?

An Air review installed fnOS but needed an Intel X710-T2L because its RTL8127 was not recognized. This does not establish compatibility for every OS release or controller variant.[6]

Where can I buy this exact US configuration new?

The price section lists the verified manufacturer variant and a matching Newegg marketplace configuration. Check seller, delivery and included RAM before purchase.[3][7]
