Large 10GbE backup targets

Hardware, storage and network planning

01

The exact factory configuration matters

This page covers TS-632X-4G-US, mapped to the official TS-632X-4G hardware table. CPU: AnnapurnaLabs, an Amazon company Alpine AL524, 4-core, 2.0GHz. Factory memory: 4 GB SODIMM DDR4.[1]

02

Plan storage and networking together

Storage: 6 x 3.5-inch SATA 6Gb/s, 3Gb/s. Connectivity: 10GbE: 2 x 10GbE SFP+; 2.5GbE: 2(2.5G/1G/100M). Advertised port speed is not a guarantee for one file transfer; drive count, RAID, protocol, client and switch can each become the limit.[1]

03

Read measured results with their setup

Applicable original testing exists for this exact model. The results must be read with the recorded drives, RAID, network, client and memory configuration; they are not ChooseCompute measurements.[4]

HDD RAID5 vs SSD RAID5 prose; charts unseen

Four 24TB RAID5 about 520/298 MB/s; six 500GB SATA SSD RAID5 about 1.4 GB/s read / 538 MB/s write. CrystalDisk 2 GB/s sits beside dual 10GbE/SMB Multichannel and is not a single-port result. 26.2/54–55 W is that RAID5 test. Chart files were not viewed (403).

QNAP TS-632X NAS Review

Tested: 4GB DDR4 non-ECC stock (upgradeable, ECC optional). Four 24TB HDDs RAID5 for one set of sequential/power notes; separately six 500GB SATA SSDs RAID5. QTS build, drive MPNs, SMB client, and whether one or both 10GbE ports were used are not fully specified. Dual 10GbE + SMB Multichannel is discussed next to the 2 GB/s CrystalDisk remark — do not treat 2 GB/s as a single 10GbE link.

Applies to: Exact TS-632X-4G, with methodology caveats.

  • The dual 10GbE design favored read-heavy transfers; the ARM CPU and lower writes limit more demanding compute-heavy use.Source location: Real-world performance and conclusion
