A six-HDD plus two-SSD hybrid business NAS with built-in 10GBASE-T and substantial expansion capacity.

Exact US MPN TS-855X-8G-US; official hardware table TS-855X-8G; 8 GB non-ECC UDIMM DDR4; 6 x 3.5-inch + 2 x 2.5-inch SATA 6Gb/s, 3Gb/s.

Based on the current QNAP specification tables and 1 applicable original review. We have not tested this NAS ourselves. The hardware-page software tables are QTS 5.2.9 / QuTS hero h5.2.9 (version-bound). Is the TS-855X-8G right for you?

10GbE business backup and file service

A six-HDD plus two-SSD hybrid business NAS with built-in 10GBASE-T and substantial expansion capacity.[1]

Good fit

Tiered or cached hybrid storage

Plan the array and client path around 10GbE: 1 x 10GBASE-T (10G/5G/2.5G/1G/100M); 2.5GbE: 2 (2.5G/1G/100M/10M).[4]

Good with planning

You expect QuTS hero deduplication on factory 8GB

The factory configuration has 8GB. IT Pro gives 16GB as the deduplication requirement and recommends 32GB to get more from 10GbE under QuTS hero. Budget a RAM upgrade for those features.[4][1]

Hardware, storage and network planning

01

The exact factory configuration matters

This page covers TS-855X-8G-US, mapped to the official TS-855X-8G hardware table. CPU: Intel ® Atom® C5125 8-core processor, 2.8GHz. Factory memory: 8 GB non-ECC UDIMM DDR4.[1]

02

Plan storage and networking together

Storage: 6 x 3.5-inch + 2 x 2.5-inch SATA 6Gb/s, 3Gb/s. Connectivity: 10GbE: 1 x 10GBASE-T (10G/5G/2.5G/1G/100M); 2.5GbE: 2 (2.5G/1G/100M/10M). Advertised port speed is not a guarantee for one file transfer; drive count, RAID, protocol, client and switch can each become the limit.[1]

03

Read measured results with their setup

Dave Mitchell tested factory 8GB QTS with four 20TB WD DC HC560 in RAID5. Iometer sequential 9.3/9.2 Gbit/s; 25GB copies 5.7/4.8; 10,500-file backup 2.3; encrypted 25GB also 2.3 Gbit/s at ~25% CPU. iSCSI sequential 9.3/9, random writes 0.6 until two 480GB Kingston NVMe as mirrored cache raised random writes to 3.5/3.4 Gbit/s. QuTS hero was not tested: 16GB is the article’s dedupe floor and 32GB its 10GbE performance advice, not a claim that 8GB cannot install QuTS. CyberQ’s later long-term TS-855X piece used 64GB RAM (4×16GB) and six ST4000VN006 in RAID-Z2 — related, not this 8GB SKU. CyberQ mixes measured experience with proposed storage layouts and does not disclose a repeatable 1.1 GB/s test method; that figure is not a factory-8GB benchmark.[4][1][5]
