Hardware, storage and network planning

01

The exact factory configuration matters

This page covers TVS-h874T-i7-32G-US, mapped to official table TVS-h874T-i7-32G. CPU: Intel® Core™ i7 12-core (8P+4E) /20-thread Processor. Factory memory: 32 GB SODIMM DDR4. Drive bays: 8 x 3.5-inch SATA 6Gb/s, 3Gb/s. US store SKU TVS-h874T-i7-32G-US matched the opened manufacturer PDP.[1][2]

02

Spec-table OS rows are not the newest firmware claim

The hardware spec page still publishes QTS 5.2.9 and QuTS hero h5.2.9 feature tables; those rows stay version-bound. QuTS hero h6.0.2.3591 (build 20260819, notes dated 2026-08-24) lists TVS-h474/TVS-h674/TVS-h874/TVS-h874X/TVS-h674T/TVS-h874T as applicable. TVS-h874T is in that family string. Exact -i3/-i5/-i7/-i9/-R5 RAM SKUs are not itemized. This page does not claim every 5.2.9 table feature is unchanged on h6.0.2.[1][7]

03

Plan storage and networking together

Advertised port speed is not one-file throughput. Drive count, RAID, protocol, client NICs and the switch each cap the result. Independent 9 Gbit/s-class numbers in this family used add-in 10GbE, not the stock 2.5GbE pair.[1]

04

Read measured results with their setup

Applicable original testing exists for this exact factory configuration. Read drives, RAID, network, client and OS with every figure. These are not ChooseCompute measurements.[4][5][6]

Qnap TVS-h874T review: The Thunderbolt 4 NAS you need

Tested: Cheaper TVS-h874T with reviewer-identified Intel Core i7-12700E, 32 GB (2x16 GB) DDR4, QXP-T42P Thunderbolt 4 card, two 480GB Kingston NVMe SSDs mirrored for the system pool, four 22TB WD Red Pro in RAID5 (~58 TB); 10GbE SFP+ to HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen11 / Windows Server 2022. Added dual-port 10GbE SFP+ adapter; dual Xeon Gold 6430, 256GB DDR5 client. iSCSI 4K IOPS use dual-10GbE MPIO.

Applies to: TVS-h874T i7/32 GB class. Reviewer CPU string i7-12700E; official column is 'Intel Core i7 12-core (8P+4E)/20-thread' without that SKU. RAM matches factory 32 GB. 10GbE SFP+ was added; Thunderbolt 4 MB/s were not published. Four 22TB WD Red Pro RAID5, not eight. Not the i9/64 GB SKU.

  • The reviewer observed warranty-warning stickers on the factory memory; the article does not establish the legal effect of a user memory upgrade.Source location: Hardware features
  • CPU stayed ≤12% in these 10GbE tests; the reviewer inferred Thunderbolt 4 headroom from that, without publishing TB4 MB/s.Source location: Performance

Thunderbolt 4 1.3 GB/s on a 20GB copy

The reviewer reported a 20GB Thunderbolt copy at 1.3 GB/s. The destination pool is not fully specified; ~1.7 GB/s for SSD RAID is an expectation. CPU-heavy work made the fan loud.

Applies to: TVS-h874T i7/32 GB review unit (reviewer: i7-12700E). Thunderbolt 4 file copy 1.3 GB/s is a network-share path, not USB/block DAS. 1.7 GB/s is the author's expected SSD-RAID figure, not a second fully documented run. Not the i9/64 GB SKU.

US listings and ownership costs

Budget the complete storage system

Budget for drives, a UPS and a separate backup target. Faster Ethernet requires compatible network hardware; Thunderbolt models also need a suitable host and cable. The reviewed Thunderbolt packages did not include a cable.[1]

Treat listings as dated evidence

Prices and stock are dated observations. QNAP Store listings retain an earlier identity check with price and availability unconfirmed; check the linked retailer for the exact configuration, current total and delivery terms.[2][3]

Questions before buying

Which TVS-h874T-i7-32G-US configuration does this page cover?

Exact US MPN TVS-h874T-i7-32G-US. Official hardware-table heading used: TVS-h874T-i7-32G.[1][2]

Are drives included?

These offers cover the enclosure. Confirm the exact drive and accessory contents on the retailer page, especially if it lists a bundle.[2]

What network or Thunderbolt plan should I make?

Official dual TB4 (20 Gb/s Thunderbolt networking in QNAP/B&H copy) plus two 2.5GbE. Map shares via the TB IP. 10GbE numbers used an extra NIC.[1]

Has ChooseCompute tested this NAS?

No. This guide synthesizes QNAP tables and 3 applicable original review record(s). Related SKUs are labelled related.[1]

Is the listed price current?

Treat the displayed price and availability as dated observations. QNAP Store price and stock remain unconfirmed; open the retailer listing to confirm the exact model and current total.[2]

Is QTS 5.2.9 / QuTS hero h5.2.9 the latest firmware?

No. Those strings are the OS rows on the current hardware spec tables. A later published branch, QuTS hero h6.0.2.3591 build 20260819 (2026-08-24), lists TVS-h474/TVS-h674/TVS-h874/TVS-h874X/TVS-h674T/TVS-h874T. TVS-h874T appears there. That is applicability of that release note, not a recrawl of every feature cell, and not a promise every optional NIC still works (LAN-10G1SR cards are called out as h5-only).[1][7]
