Home files and backups

Two HDD bays, RAID 1 and standard file protocols cover a small household; retain a separate backup.[1][2]

Good fit

Plex and containers

Docker is supported and the official Plex guide supports Intel hardware transcoding with graphics access and Plex Pass.[2][3]

Good fit with setup

Heavy virtualization

The N100 and 16GB official RAM ceiling constrain larger or concurrent VMs.[1][2]

Consider carefully

Growing multi-bay archive

Only two SATA bays and no 10GbE or PCIe expansion.[1]

Living with it

UGOS updates, Plex and two-bay limits

01

Two-bay Intel NAS for containers and media on 2.5GbE

DXP2800 combines Intel N100, expandable 8GB DDR5, two NVMe slots and 2.5GbE in a small two-bay system. It is a useful step up for Docker and compatible Quick Sync media workloads. The official 16GB RAM limit and two SATA bays constrain larger virtual machines and future RAID expansion.[1]

02

Measured performance

PCMasters measured a large RAID 1 file at 166 MB/s write and 150 MB/s read. ComputerBase found intermittent write slowdowns on UGOS 1.0.0.0940 in 2024; a current-firmware retest has not established whether that issue persists.[6]

03

Archive versus active editing

PCMasters ran a Windows 10 VM, but Lightroom RAW previews and zooming from the NAS stuttered compared with the MacBook internal SSD. That supports archive and backup use more clearly than active photo editing over this connection.[5]

Repeated writes varied substantially; hardware substitutions did not remove the issue during testing. Observed transfer range: Just over 80MB/s to about 250MB/s. NAS Performance Tester runs depended on whether slow transfers occurred; even the RAID 1 SSD volume could be affected.

Limits to keep in mind

  • Software state is 2024-04-08. Official 2026-09-11 Docker table lists DXP2800 as x86-64 supported.
  • Ugreen claimed 50–70 W power; that manufacturer quote is not a lab measurement adopted here.

Questions before buying

What does the performance evidence show?

PCMasters measured a large RAID 1 file at 166 MB/s write and 150 MB/s read. ComputerBase found intermittent write slowdowns on UGOS 1.0.0.0940 in 2024; a current-firmware retest has not established whether that issue persists.[6]

Archive versus active editing?

PCMasters ran a Windows 10 VM, but Lightroom RAW previews and zooming from the NAS stuttered compared with the MacBook internal SSD. That supports archive and backup use more clearly than active photo editing over this connection.[5]

What should I check before buying?

Choose the exact diskless model and RAM configuration, check full drive part numbers in the compatibility list, and budget for drives plus a separate backup. Dealer stock and price are dated observations; shipping and tax depend on your destination.[1][11]
