Exact identity & capacity
Connection & sector format
Check the physical bay, SATA connection and sector presentation.
| Form factor / interface | 3.5-inch / SATA 6Gb/s[1][2] |
|---|---|
| Sector format | 512-byte logical / 4096-byte physical (512e)[1][2] Exact 2019 manual; later family documents use different temperature and acoustic expressions. |
Recording & NAS firmware
Rated performance
NAS class & bay guidance
Bay-class statements do not replace the host vendor's compatibility list.
| Rated bay range | 1–8 bays[1] |
|---|---|
| Intended operation | 24×7 NAS[1] |
| IronWolf Health Management | Documented as available on leading NAS systems; confirm the current NAS vendor enablement for this MPN[1] Datasheet footnote 2. Family 1–8 bay positioning is not a host compatibility list. |
Workload & reliability ratings
Population and workload ratings do not predict one unit's life.
| Annual workload rating | 180TB/year transferred[1] |
|---|---|
| MTBF | 1,000,000 hours[1] Population/design statistic, not individual-drive lifespan. |
| Load/unload cycles | 600,000[1] |
| Unrecoverable read error rating | 1 per 10^14 bits read[1] |
| Power-on-hour basis | 8,760 hours/year[1] |
Warranty & support
Confirm regional coverage and proof-of-purchase requirements.
| Limited warranty / Rescue | 3 years / 3 years[1] Rescue is not available in every country. |
|---|
Power & spin-up planning
Size power and cooling for active work as well as idle.
| Startup current, typical 12V | 1.8A[1][2] |
|---|---|
| Average operating | 5.3W[1][2] |
| Idle | 3.4W[1][2] ST6000VN001 is Low Power Idle from the exact manual; ST6000VN006 is the data-sheet average idle state. |
| Standby / sleep | 0.25W[1][2] |
| Voltage tolerance including noise | 5V ±5%; 12V ±10%[1][2] |
| Power-on / standby-to-ready time | 15 / 15 seconds typical[2] |
Temperature, vibration & shock
Stay within the documented installation and handling limits.
| Operating temperature | 5°C minimum ambient; 70°C maximum drive case[1][2] Rev. A Table 1 distinguishes ambient minimum from case maximum; its footnote states a 0–70°C case range. Seagate advises against sustained case temperatures above 60°C. |
|---|---|
| Non-operating temperature | −40 to 70°C[1][2] |
| Operating / non-operating shock (2ms) | 70G / 250G[1][2] |
| Relative humidity | 5–90% operating; 5–95% non-operating[1][2] |
| Altitude | −304 to 3,048m operating; −304 to 12,192m non-operating[1][2] |
| Operating vibration | 10–22 Hz: 0.25 G; 22–350 Hz: 0.50 G; 350–500 Hz: 0.25 G[2] Rev. A §2.8.6; securely mounted, input at mounting screws. Lower band is displacement-limited. |
| Non-operating vibration | 5–500 Hz: 3.0 G[2] Rev. A §2.8.6; 5–22 Hz displacement-limited; not a random-vibration Grms specification. |
| Temperature / humidity gradients | 20°C/hour operating; 30°C/hour non-operating; 30% RH/hour[2] Rev. A §2.8.2–2.8.3; no condensation. |
| Wet-bulb temperature | 30°C operating; 40°C non-operating[2] Rev. A §2.8.3.2. |
| Altitude temperature derating | Reduce maximum temperature by 1°C per 305 m above 305 m[2] Rev. A §2.8; confirm enclosure cooling at altitude. |
Published acoustics
Drive ratings do not predict sound from an assembled NAS.
| Idle / seek acoustics | 2.6 / 2.7 bel typical sound power[1][2] ST6000VN001 manual states A-weighted ISO 7779 sound power; the current ST6000VN006 sheet labels dBA. |
|---|---|
| Datasheet idle / seek acoustics | 26 / 27 dBA typical (Idle 1 / seek)[1] Sound-power bels in the product manual are a different quantity; do not convert this row into dBA from a recording. |

These exact-manual facts help distinguish revisions.

Exact product identity & open questions
- Product
- One 6TB internal 3.5-inch SATA HDD from the Seagate IronWolf family; enclosure and additional drives sold separately.[1]
- Revision rule
- Match the complete ST6000VN001 suffix on the listing and delivered label; another 6TB family member is not interchangeable evidence.[1]
- Not the same 6TB IronWolf
- ST6000VN0033 is a separate 7200 rpm / 210 MB/s revision. ST6000VN006 is a later 5400 rpm / 202 MB/s 6TB column. Do not mix their ratings.[1]
- Factory unique on original screens
- Root Nation AS SSD/AIDA screens show ST6000VN001-2BB186 firmware SC60. Still match ST6000VN001 on the order code.[5]
- Long-term reliability: No controlled exact-MPN field failure-rate or service-life study is adopted. Workload, MTBF and warranty ratings do not predict the life of the delivered unit.
- Host compatibility: IHM is vendor-enabled. Synology/QNAP HCL pages were not fully parsed this round. Confirm ST6000VN001, bay, firmware and capacity ceiling on the target NAS.
- Current US offer coverage: No exact-MPN new main offer returned a usable selected page on 2026-09-11. Amazon was blocked. 1 older listing remains historical.
- Legacy revision statements: The product manual uses 5°C min ambient / 70°C case max and sound-power bels; DS1904.21 uses 0–65°C drive-reported and 26/27 dBA. Both are kept; they are not merged.
- NAS-array testing: Root Nation and Takamana are single-drive PC tests. No exact-MPN RAID/SMB lab is adopted. The TrueNAS ST6000VN001-2BB186 thread remains troubleshooting.
- Acoustics and video: B-6ZDG1a8VA description says DS218+ SHR/Btrfs indexing was subjectively noisy; no frames or original audio, no dBA. U1OT__LPxyU has no ASR/frames.
- Write performance: Root Nation states write graphs failed. Do not assume write matches the linear-read curve.
