Exact identity & capacity
Connection & sector format
Check the physical bay, SATA connection and sector presentation.
| Form factor / interface | 3.5-inch / SATA 6Gb/s[1] |
|---|---|
| Sector format | 512e (512-byte logical / 4096-byte physical)[7][9] Product manual 100807039U Table 1 names ST6000VN006. An owner smartctl dump on ST6000VN006-2ZM186 SC60 reports the same pair. DS1904.23 does not print a sector row. |
Recording & NAS firmware
Rated performance
NAS class & bay guidance
Bay-class statements do not replace the host vendor's compatibility list.
| Rated bay range | 1–8 bays[1] |
|---|---|
| Intended operation | 24×7 NAS[1] |
| IronWolf Health Management | Documented as available on leading NAS systems; confirm the current NAS vendor enablement for this MPN[1] Datasheet footnote 2. |
Workload & reliability ratings
Population and workload ratings do not predict one unit's life.
| Annual workload rating | 180TB/year transferred[1] |
|---|---|
| MTBF | 1,000,000 hours[1][7] Population/design statistic, not individual-drive lifespan. Manual reliability conditions include drive-reported temperature at or below 40°C and the specified workload. |
| Load/unload cycles | 600,000[1] |
| Unrecoverable read error rating | 1 per 10^14 bits read[1] |
| Power-on-hour basis | 8,760 hours/year[1] |
Warranty & support
Confirm regional coverage and proof-of-purchase requirements.
| Limited warranty / Rescue | 3 years / 3 years[1] Rescue is not available in every country. |
|---|
Power & spin-up planning
Size power and cooling for active work as well as idle.
| Startup current, typical 12V | 1.8A[1] |
|---|---|
| Average operating | 5.3W[1][7] DS1904.23 ST6000VN006 column and 100807039U Table 6 (8TB & 6TB models, 25 °C, DIPLPM enabled) both list 5.3 W. |
| Idle | 4.0W[1][7] DS1904.23 and 100807039U Table 6 Idle* / Idle1 both list 4.0 W at 25 °C. Background SMART activity can raise idle power. |
| Standby / sleep | 0.25W[1] |
| Voltage tolerance including noise | 5V ±5%; 12V ±10%[1] |
| Power-on / standby to ready | 17 s typical / 30 s maximum[7] Manual §2.4: normal conditions; ready-to-spindle-stop 12 s typical. |
Temperature, vibration & shock
Stay within the documented installation and handling limits.
| Operating temperature | 0°C minimum ambient; 65°C maximum drive-reported[1][7] DS1904.23 footnote 5 and manual 100807039U advise against sustained drive-reported temperatures above 60°C. The 65°C operating limit is not an MTBF rating condition. |
|---|---|
| Non-operating temperature | −40 to 70°C[1] |
| Operating / non-operating shock (2ms) | Datasheet 80G / 300G; manual operating 80G read / 70G write, non-operating 300G[1][7] Manual §2.6.4 is ST6000VN006-specific and is more detailed than the datasheet pair. Do not copy ST6000VN001 70G/250G. |
| Relative humidity | 5–90% operating; 5–95% non-operating (manual Table 1)[7] 100807039U Table 1 and §2.6.2; non-condensing, maximum relative humidity gradient 30% per hour. |
| Altitude | Operating −304 m to 3048 m; non-operating −304 m to 12,192 m (manual Table 1)[7] 100807039U Table 1. DS1904.23 still has no altitude row. |
Published acoustics
Drive ratings do not predict sound from an assembled NAS.
| Idle / seek acoustics | Datasheet 25 / 26 dBA typical (Idle 1 / seek)[1][7] Manual: A-weighted sound power 2.5/2.7 bels idle typical/max and 2.6/2.8 bels seek typical/max. One bel equals ten decibels, so the typical values numerically match 25/26 dB on that sound-power scale. The datasheet does not fully specify its dBA measurement quantity/conditions; do not infer room sound pressure. |

Exact product identity & open questions
- Manufacturer part number
- ST6000VN006[1]
- Product
- One 6TB internal 3.5-inch SATA HDD from the Seagate IronWolf family; enclosure and additional drives sold separately.[1]
- Revision rule
- Match the complete ST6000VN006 suffix on the listing and delivered label; another 6TB family member is not interchangeable evidence.[1]
- Spindle speed
- 5400 rpm on DS1904.23. Listings that say 7200 rpm for ST6000VN006 are describing a different SKU or a copy error.[1]
- Long-term reliability: No controlled exact-MPN field failure-rate study is adopted. The complete CAM-timeout thread includes 106 reallocated sectors and an April 21 warranty claim; causation and replacement outcome were not established.
- Host compatibility: IHM still depends on the NAS vendor. Synology compatibility HTML opened this round was a JS shell without a visible ST6000VN006-2ZM186/SC60 row, so HCL is not claimed from that page.
- Current US offer coverage: Hard Disk Direct $440 new with Add to Cart on 2026-09-11; 10% off MOQ 10 is a promo, not a verified base minimum. Amazon B0BNGN1DL3 bot wall; MemoryC 403; Newegg captcha. Not re-priced this round.
- Original exact-MPN laboratory testing: No method-bound professional sequential/random lab of ST6000VN006 was found. Owner dd/smartctl and a label/SMART video are qualified identity/system evidence, not an outer-diameter lab. YouTube H8OqvLiqJIs still has no captions; no CDM frame was obtained this round.
- Acoustic measurement conditions: The manual explicitly reports A-weighted sound power: 2.5/2.6 bels typical idle/seek, numerically 25/26 decibels on the same scale. The datasheet prints 25/26 dBA without fully specifying the measurement quantity and conditions; neither document predicts room sound pressure.
