One 12TB HAT3310-12T · 3.5-inch SATA · CMR
This guide checks the exact HAT3310-12T column (family data sheet and the 23 April 2026 product specification), two original 12 TB write-ups (Kursors.lv desktop copy and CGMagazine migration), and current plus historical US listings. Blackvoid’s HAT3310 note is related context about the 8/12 TB vendor shift, not a 12 TB benchmark. ChooseCompute has not tested this drive. See the review evidence ↓

Is this 12TB drive right for your NAS?
A supported Synology NAS
Drive firmware can be managed from DSM on a supported system.[1]
Shared files and backup storage
12TB raw capacity with a 180TB/year workload rating.[1]
A quiet desk-side NAS
The finished enclosure has no controlled noise result here.[1]
A different NAS brand
Physical SATA fit does not establish support for the complete system.[2]

Living with it
Synology compatibility, capacity and everyday use
Plan usable space from 12TB raw capacity
12TB is raw decimal capacity. Formatting and your array layout reduce usable space. Keep an independent copy of important files; redundancy cannot undo an accidental deletion.[1]
Desktop copy speed is not NAS network speed
A direct desktop copy in the Kursors review stayed around 240MB/s. Treat that as one large-file workload, not a guarantee for a NAS network or small-file tasks.[3]
Audible activity in the DS923+
Kursors heard prominent drive activity in a DS923+. Choose the enclosure location with that in mind; the observation is not a calibrated noise comparison.[3]
Related: 8/12 TB Plus drives are described as Toshiba-based
Blackvoid reported that HAT3310 8 TB and 12 TB moved from Seagate-based HAT3300 parts to Toshiba-based hardware with Synology firmware, and that DSM 7.2 or newer was required when that article was written. Kursors likewise described HAT3310 as Toshiba NAS hardware with custom firmware. Those are identity/context notes, not a substitute for the 12 TB copy and migration tests above.[12][3]
Host compatibility is a policy check, not a SATA fit
HAT3310-12T is a 3.5-inch SATA drive intended for compatible Synology systems, with one-click firmware updates inside DSM on supported hosts. 2025-and-later Synology models and some DSM versions restrict or warn on third-party disks; older hosts still need the live compatibility list for this exact MPN. Kursors used four demo drives in a loaned DS923+ without RAID; CGMagazine migrated into a DS224+ JBOD over gigabit. Do not treat family marketing as a substitute for the current host list.[1][2][11][3][4]

A 240 MB/s desktop copy and audible NAS activity
Four demo HAT3310-12T drives. Desktop copy about 240 MB/s (251 MB/s at 10% on the overlay). AS SSD Seq 266/259 MB/s; incomplete CDM Q8 292/284 MB/s; ATTO peaks about 281 MB/s. DS923+ activity sounded loud subjectively.

Tested: Four demo HAT3310-12T drives in a loaned DS923+, without RAID or NVMe cache; separate desktop copy from an NVMe SSD on i9-13900K / Gigabyte Z790 / 32GB DDR5.
Applies to: Exact 12TB model; desktop copy is separate from NAS-network speed.
- Drive activity sounded prominent during the NAS benchmark; this was a subjective observation.Source location: Four-drive DS923+ test, before desktop tests
- Desktop charts on i9-13900K show sequential rates near or above the 281 MB/s rating in ATTO/CDM Q8, with AS SSD Seq about 266/259 MB/s. CDM was not a complete four-row run.Source location: Desktop benchmark screenshots
| Measurement | Result | Conditions & source location |
|---|---|---|
| Desktop large-file copy (prose) | About 240 MB/s | About 110 GB, roughly 25 large files from NVMe. A 10% overlay screenshot shows 251 MB/s instantaneous from S500 (F:) to Synology (E:).Final desktop copy paragraph; Ekranuznemums-2024-03-07-114012.png |

| ATTO Disk Benchmark 4.01 Direct I/O QD4, 4 GB file | Read peaks 281.79 MB/s at 8 KB; write peaks 281.25 MB/s at 32 KB | Drive (E:) Synology; 512 B–64 MB range. Desktop, not NAS network.Ekranuznemums-2024-03-07-115244.png |
Limits to keep in mind
- No calibrated dBA or long-term failure study.
- Demo drives; firmware version not given.
- CDM screenshot is an incomplete run (three rows 0.00).
- NAS built-in benchmark noise is subjective.

Migration to a DS224+ using JBOD
DS224+ JBOD migration without observed file errors. iSCSI CDM from that NAS is about 118 MB/s sequential, which is the network/iSCSI path, not a bare disk. A File Station overlay shows 241.9 MB/s at 0.1% of 10.02 TB; the article’s 3.2 TB USB sentence does not match that overlay, so the USB figure stays qualified. Gaming notes have no FPS.

Tested: HAT3310-12T in a DS224+ (hostname ZubiDS224 on screenshots). JBOD migration from a TerraMaster F2-212 over gigabit; later iSCSI mount of the Synology volume into Windows for CrystalDiskMark; File Station copy UI also shown. Affiliate links disclosed; sample supply unstated.
Applies to: Exact model, migration experience; not an isolated disk-speed comparison.
- Multi-day library migration into DS224+ JBOD completed without observed file errors; gigabit was described as the bottleneck.Source location: Migration paragraph following JBOD setup

| File Station instantaneous copy overlay | 241.9 MB/s at 9.4 GB / 10.02 TB (0.1%) | usbshare1 listed; direction not explicit; article 3.2 TB USB prose conflicts with 10.02 TB overlay. Not a completed-transfer average.parent-cgm screenshot synology-hat3310-12t-plus-review-2024-08-28-961379.jpg |
Limits to keep in mind
- JBOD provides no disk-failure redundancy.
- iSCSI CDM is NAS + network + iSCSI, not an isolated HDD.
- USB/File Station speed: overlay vs 3.2 TB prose disagree; path/direction ambiguous.
- Gaming note is subjective with no FPS/latency.
- Sample-supply arrangement unstated; affiliate links disclosed.

Current and historical HAT3310-12T listings and ownership costs
1 usable current main offer checked on 2026-09-10
Each current row keeps the selected main seller, condition, availability and only a price visible without a cart action. Null price means the main buy box hid it; every current fact is a dated observation that requires a fresh check before purchase.[10]
Budget for the complete storage plan
Include the number of disks needed for your array and a separate backup destination, not just the first drive.[1]
Check the seller as well as the price
Compare the exact model, new condition, shipping, return policy and regional warranty eligibility. A marketplace page may use a different seller from the store itself.[8][5]
Include running costs
Typical drive power is 3.30W at active idle and 6.85W in the specified random workload. Add the enclosure and other drives when estimating the whole system.[1]

Compatibility, capacity and backup questions
Does it work with every Synology NAS?
No universal claim is made here. Check HAT3310-12T against the compatibility list for your NAS and installed software before buying.[2]
Does HAT3310-12T use CMR or SMR?
HAT3310-12T uses conventional magnetic recording (CMR), according to the manufacturer's specifications.[1]
Can I use the speed rating as a file-transfer estimate?
Use it as a drive specification. Network speed, array layout, file size and disk position affect actual transfer rates.[1]
Does the three-year warranty protect my files?
The limited warranty covers eligible hardware service. It does not create a backup copy of the data.[1]
