Is this 6TB drive right for your NAS?
A supported Synology NAS
Drive firmware can be managed from DSM on a supported system.[1]
Shared files and backup storage
6TB raw capacity with a 180TB/year workload rating.[1]
A quiet desk-side NAS
The finished enclosure has no controlled noise result here.[1]
A different NAS brand
Physical SATA fit does not establish support for the complete system.[2]

Living with it
Synology compatibility, capacity and everyday use
Plan usable space from 6TB raw capacity
6TB is raw decimal capacity. Formatting and your array layout reduce usable space. Keep an independent copy of important files; redundancy cannot undo an accidental deletion.[1]
Annual workload and manufacturer speed limits
The drive is rated for 24/7 NAS use and 180TB of annual reads and writes. Its 202MB/s specification is a manufacturer maximum, so your network, array and files determine actual speed.[1]
Noise in a populated NAS remains untested
We have not found a controlled listening-room test for this exact model. The published drive ratings cannot tell you how a populated NAS will sound beside your desk.[1]
Related 4 TB and 8 TB Plus tests are not 6 TB numbers
Hardwareluxx’s 4 TB samples were 20.20 mm ST4000VN3300 units with lab idle 1.9 W on sample 1 (Toshiba S300 is 1.81 W on that chart). This 6 TB SKU is specified at 26.1 mm, 610 g, 3.40 W typical idle and 27/28 dB. Blackvoid’s RAID 5 400+ MB/s note used HAT3300-8T in an RS2423+. Use those only as family context.[7][8][1]
What still needs a real-world test
We have verified the specifications, but have not found an original test that we can reliably apply to this exact model. The advice above follows the documented features; performance, noise and long-term reliability are not independently established here.

Current and historical HAT3300-6T listings and ownership costs
Newegg seller and stock need confirmation
Newegg sold the exact new drive for $299.99 in the September 11 observation. Recheck delivered total and stock before ordering. Other stores retain their original observation dates.[9][3]
Budget for the complete storage plan
Include the number of disks needed for your array and a separate backup destination, not just the first drive.[1]
Check the seller as well as the price
Compare the exact model, new condition, shipping, return policy and regional warranty eligibility. A marketplace page may use a different seller from the store itself.[9][3]
Include running costs
Typical drive power is 3.40W at active idle and 5.30W in the specified random workload. Add the enclosure and other drives when estimating the whole system.[1]

Compatibility, capacity and backup questions
Does it work with every Synology NAS?
No universal claim is made here. Check HAT3300-6T against the compatibility list for your NAS and installed software before buying.[2]
Does HAT3300-6T use CMR or SMR?
HAT3300-6T uses conventional magnetic recording (CMR), according to the manufacturer's specifications.[1]
Can I use the speed rating as a file-transfer estimate?
Use it as a drive specification. Network speed, array layout, file size and disk position affect actual transfer rates.[1]
Does the three-year warranty protect my files?
The limited warranty covers eligible hardware service. It does not create a backup copy of the data.[1]
