What two 10TB drives provide in RAID1
Two equal 10 TB drives in RAID1 provide roughly 10 TB before formatting and reserved space. Redundancy protects availability in some failures; keep an independent backup.[1]

WD Red Plus 10TB: specifications and dated store comparison →A 7200 RPM 10TB Red Plus with one exact-suffix read figure; plan for heat and 34/39 dBA ratings.
One 10 TB WD100EFGX drive ·3.5-inch SATA ·CMR ·7200 RPM
The official WD100EFGX column lists CMR, 7200 RPM, 512 MB cache, 260 MB/s, 34/39 dBA, 8.8/6.1 W, 180 TB/year and a three-year warranty. SmartHDD records one exact-suffix sample, and two Japanese owners describe their installations. These add identity and use context, but do not provide a qualifying benchmark or controlled heat/noise comparison. Older WD100EFAX reviews concern different drives. ChooseCompute has not tested this model. See evidence and test gaps ↓

CMR and the 180 TB/year class suit NAS data storage within the stated limits.[1]
34/39 dBA ratings plus a Kakaku owner who found it louder than WD80EFPX. 7200 RPM air 10TB is not a silent SKU.[1][6]
Mechanical storage is capacity-oriented; application response depends on seeks and the whole NAS.[1]
Follow any specification for its full conditions and sources.
Living with it
Two equal 10 TB drives in RAID1 provide roughly 10 TB before formatting and reserved space. Redundancy protects availability in some failures; keep an independent backup.[1]
The 260 MB/s rating is an internal drive figure. Your NAS processor, network, filesystem, RAID and file sizes determine end-to-end transfers. Small-file applications also encounter mechanical seek delays.[1]
This model is rated for 180 TB/year of reads and writes. Annual workload is not lifetime writes. Red Plus is designed for up to eight bays; frequent transfers can consume the annual rating even if the drive is not full.[1]
The datasheet lists 34 dBA idle and 39 dBA average seek. These are laboratory ratings, not noise measured at your desk. Mount securely, leave cooling clearance, and avoid relying on brand or family names to predict quietness.[1]
WD100EFGX uses air, 512 MB cache and 7200 RPM. Earlier same-capacity Red Plus models have different power, acoustics and performance. A review of an older EFBX model does not describe this drive.[1]
StorageReview and Tom's Hardware 10TB Red articles describe earlier Red generations. WD101EFBX sits beside WD100EFGX in the current table with 256 MB and 215 MB/s. Use only the WD100EFGX column for this page's ratings.[1]
SmartHDD names WD100EFGX-68CPLN0 / 85.00B85, one unit and one test: maximum read 257 MiB/s, buffered read 465 MiB/s, minimum average access 15.16 ms and recorded maximum temperature 39°C. Host, software version, test region and workload are undisclosed; these remain database observations. Kakaku author p1925 (June 9, 2025) used an Aoostar R7 and found the drive hotter/louder than WD80EFPX running in a different main-PC RAID setup, so the comparison is confounded by the enclosure. A December 3 owner used two 10TB drives in RAID1 and described quiet operation after replacing nine-year-old 3TB Reds. Neither report supplies instrumented noise or temperature comparisons.[5][6][7]
We have verified the specifications, but have not found an original test that we can reliably apply to this exact model. The advice above follows the documented features; performance, noise and long-term reliability are not independently established here.
Before you buy
Each current row keeps the selected main seller, condition, availability and only a price visible without a cart action. Null price means the main buy box hid it; every current fact is a dated observation that requires a fresh check before purchase.[4]
Budget for all drives in the array, backup capacity and eventual replacements. Compare the cost after your chosen redundancy overhead.[1]
The drive is rated at 6.1 W idle and 8.8 W read/write at room temperature. Actual consumption depends on operation; the NAS adds its own power.[1]
Check WD100EFGX, one 10 TB drive, new condition, the actual seller and regional warranty. A retailer suffix is preserved in offer notes for verification.[1]

Yes; the official exact WD100EFGX column specifies CMR.[1]
No. It is a population estimate under specified workload and temperature conditions, not a promise for one drive.[1]
No. Check the exact enclosure, firmware and capacity qualification.[1]
No. Redundancy does not protect against every deletion, malware incident or whole-device loss. Keep an independent copy.[1]
SMARTHDD lists one test of WDC WD100EFGX-68CPLN0 firmware 85.00B85 at 257 MiB/s maximum read and 15.16 ms access. That is a diagnostic peak on an unpublished host, not CrystalDiskMark and not a RAID result.[5]
WD rates WD100EFGX at 34/39 dBA versus WD80EFPX at 24/28 dBA. One owner heard more noise, but used the 10TB and 8TB drives in different enclosures; another owner described quiet operation in a two-drive 10TB RAID1 setup. These are subjective experiences, not a controlled comparison.[1][6]
