WD Red Plus 6TB: specifications and dated store comparison →

6TB decimal for home and small-business NAS storage, with the exact WD60EFPX revision kept separate.

One Western Digital WD Red Plus 6TB WD60EFPX internal SATA hard drive. NAS enclosure and other drives sold separately.

WD60EFPX is in the September 2025 table as CMR air, 5400 RPM, 256 MB, 180 MB/s, 23/27 dBA, 4.7/3.1 W. An older product-brief column listed 5640 RPM and 32 dBA idle for the same MPN; that conflict is not averaged. The only exact-MPN original test used a WD-supplied drive on an externally powered USB adapter: 16MiB CrystalDiskMark ~414 MB/s is cache, while 1/4/16 GiB sequential stays about 216 MB/s. Phone Z-weighted app readings are not laboratory dBA. This site has not tested the drive. See the review evidence ↓

Is 6TB WD Red Plus storage right for your NAS?

A 6TB-per-bay capacity plan

One drive provides 6TB decimal before formatting; redundancy and growth allowance still reduce practical headroom.[1]

Good when the capacity math fits

Home and small-business nas storage

The documented 180TB/year transferred and family features support this intended class, within the exact host compatibility boundary.[1]

Designed for this storage class

Quiet storage beside a desk

Published acoustic labels and review observations, when available, do not predict resonance or seek noise in your enclosure.[2]

Compare the installed sound

A workload that needs proven latency or application speed

The evidence does not establish performance for every array, network, database or virtual-machine workload.[2]

Capacity, power, cooling and sound for WD60EFPX

01

What 6TB changes in a NAS plan

Its capacity is practical only if it leaves enough room for growth before the next drive replacement. Calculate formatted space, redundancy, snapshots and backup copies before deciding how many drives to buy.[1]

02

What the 180 MB/s rating does and does not say

The rating is useful for checking the exact WD60EFPX column. It does not guarantee a network transfer rate or random-I/O result, and it should not be copied to a neighboring MPN.[1]

03

How much confidence the available testing adds

1 selected exact-MPN original test adds setup-bound observations. ChooseCompute has not tested this drive.[2]

04

USB adapter path, cache test, and what is not a NAS result

CrystalDiskMark 16MiB SEQ1M Q8T1 was 414.48/128.22 MB/s in a cache-affected short test. At 1, 4 and 16 GiB the same row stays about 216 MB/s on the externally powered USB 3.1 Gen2 adapter. ATTO 4GB/64MB was 208.24/207.71 MB/s on volume WD60EFPX_1. Explorer ~210 MB/s figures are instantaneous. Power 3.0/4.5 W is measured at the adapter mains inlet. The iPhone dBMeter used Z weighting (Max 98 dB on a 10 cm frame) and is not a dBA result. Do not treat 210 MB/s as a SATA 6 Gb/s ceiling.[2][1]

WD60EFPX on a powered USB adapter, not a NAS backplane

Tostie1987 tested a WD-supplied WD60EFPX through an externally powered SATA-to-USB 3.1 Gen2 adapter (updated 2025-07-17). CrystalDiskMark 16MiB hit 414.48/128.22 MB/s and is cache-affected; 1/4/16 GiB SEQ1M stayed about 216 MB/s. ATTO 4GB/64MB was 208.24/207.71 MB/s. Explorer copy snapshots were ~210–215 MB/s, not a timed average. Mains power 3.0/4.5 W includes the adapter. Phone-app Z-weighted readings are not dBA. Amazon affiliate links are present. This is not a RAID/NAS result.

Western Digital WD60EFPX 6TB internal HDD review

Updated Jul 17, 2025

Tested: Exact WD60EFPX (ATTO volume WD60EFPX_1) on an externally powered SATA-to-USB 3.1 Gen2 adapter into a USB 3.1 Gen2 port; Windows host unspecified; copy source on an M.2 SSD. CrystalDiskMark 9.0.1 x64 Admin, 3 runs, 16MiB/1GiB/4GiB/16GiB, W:4% (227/5589 GiB), MB/s. ATTO 4.01.0f1, 512B–64MB, queue depth 4, Direct I/O on, Bypass Write Cache off, Verify Data off, file sizes 256MB and 4GB.

Applies to: Exact-MPN original test on the whole USB adapter path, not a direct-SATA NAS backplane or RAID array.

  • Mains wattmeter on the powered adapter read 3.0 idle and 4.5 average write. The adapter-alone display was 0. The author wrote Watt/u; treat the numbers as watts, adapter included, not isolated 12V rail power.Source location: Stroomverbruik paragraph
  • iPhone SE 3 dBMeter during a large copy used the Z filter, not A. A 10 cm frame showed Max 98 dB / PieK 35 dB / Gem 51 dB. Limits to keep in mind

  • Whole-path USB adapter test, not direct SATA or a NAS array.
  • 16MiB CDM ~414 MB/s is cache-affected; use 1/4/16 GiB ~216 MB/s for sequential context.
  • Explorer figures are instantaneous snapshots without completion time.
  • Power includes the adapter; author unit label Watt/u is an error.
  • Phone dBMeter is Z-weighted and uncalibrated; Max 98 dB is not a drive dBA result.
  • Western Digital supplied the sample (gift). Amazon affiliate links are present. Those are separate from cash sponsorship.
  • Author claim that ~210 MB/s is a SATA interface ceiling is incorrect for SATA 6 Gb/s and is not adopted.
  • NASware power-loss and reliability claims are marketing restatements, not verified here.
  • Firmware and physical dash suffix unconfirmed beyond ATTO volume WD60EFPX_1.
  • No endurance or field failure-rate test.

Current and historical WD60EFPX listings and ownership costs

1 usable current main offer checked on 2026-09-10

The 2026-09-10 Newegg observation is the selected main seller on that dated check. Parent primary-sold-by parse of the saved HTML agrees with that seller. Other-seller popover rows are not additional selected offers. Every price still needs a fresh check before purchase.[7]

Historical listings remain separate

Three dated listings without a later selected seller on the same PDP remain historical (Best Buy, MemoryC, Western Digital). The earlier unknown-seller Newegg row on this PDP was retired because the same URL later resolved to PC Parts Hub. Dates are not overwritten.[3][4]

Compare the delivered unit and seller

Check WD60EFPX, new condition, seller, regional warranty channel, shipping and return terms. A marketplace product page does not by itself identify the current seller.[7][3]

Budget for the storage layout

A mirrored or parity-protected layout may require multiple drives, while a separate backup needs additional storage. Compare total delivered cost for the complete plan.[1]

WD60EFPX questions before buying

How much usable space will 6TB provide?

Less than the decimal label after formatting, and less again when the chosen redundancy layout reserves capacity. Leave room for growth and snapshots.[1]

What should I verify before ordering WD60EFPX?

Confirm the full MPN, seller, new condition, NAS compatibility, firmware support, mounting fit and delivered price. Recheck every historical merchant listing.[1][7]

Has ChooseCompute tested this drive?

No. This guide synthesizes manufacturer documents, retained merchant records and any clearly identified third-party original tests; each result keeps its setup limits.[2]
